Terminal Dues Calculator Kenya (Notice, Leave & Severance)
Leaving a job, laid off or declared redundant? Estimate the terminal dues your employer owes you under Kenya’s Employment Act, 2007.
How terminal dues are calculated
- Notice pay (section 35/36): if you are paid monthly, the minimum notice is 28 days, or as in your contract. If your employer ends the job without notice, they pay salary for the notice period instead.
- Leave days (section 28): you earn at least 21 working days of paid leave a year. Untaken days are paid at your daily rate. Payroll teams commonly divide monthly basic pay by 26 or 30 to get a daily rate; check your contract.
- Severance pay (section 40): in a redundancy, at least 15 days’ pay for each completed year of service. Severance does not apply to resignation or dismissal for misconduct.
- Other dues: unpaid salary, overtime and any contractual gratuity.
