Job Group Salary in Kenya: How the Scales Work and Where to Find Official Figures

Why there is no salary table here. We only publish pay figures from an official document. On 24 October 2026 the Salaries and Remuneration Commission’s circulars page did not carry the December 2025 civil service salary circular, so we have not printed any job group figures. Tables you see elsewhere are copied from newspaper scans and blogs. When the official document is published, we will add the figures with a link to it.

“Job group K salary” and “job group L salary in county government” are among the most searched pay questions in Kenya. This page explains how the job group system works, what changed in the latest review, and how to find the real figure for a specific post without trusting a forwarded table.

What a job group is

Public service posts in Kenya are graded. For decades the civil service used letters, from job group A at entry level up to U for the most senior officers, and many county governments and parastatals still advertise posts that way. Every grade has a salary scale: a minimum and maximum basic salary with yearly increments in between. On top of the basic salary come allowances, mainly house allowance (which depends on where you are posted), commuter allowance and leave allowance.

What changed in the 2025/26 review

SRC approved Phase I of the fourth remuneration review cycle (2025/26 to 2028/29) at its meeting of 19 December 2025, with effect from 1 July 2025. As reported by national media, the circular (Ref. SRC/TS/24/1 Vol. II (32)) covers civil service grades labelled CSG1 to CSG17, revises basic salary and leave allowance, groups house allowance into three clusters (Nairobi; Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru and some municipalities; all other areas), and folds entertainment, extraneous and domestic allowances into a “Salary Market Adjustment”. Unionisable staff get their scales through collective bargaining, so teachers, doctors, nurses and county workers may be on different scales. Status: reported by media, the official PDF is unverified by us.

How to find the real figure for a post

  1. Read the advert. PSC and county public service board adverts usually print the salary scale next to the job group. That is the most reliable number for that post.
  2. Ask the HR office of the ministry or county for the current scale, quoting the job group or CSG grade.
  3. Check the SRC circulars page (src.go.ke) for the circular itself.
  4. Teachers: use the TSC collective bargaining agreement, not the civil service scale.

Worked example

A county advert lists a Clerical Officer post at “Job Group H, KES X to Y”. The advert figure is your basic salary range. To estimate take-home pay, add the house allowance the advert quotes for that county, then put the total into our net salary calculator to take off PAYE, SHIF, NSSF and the housing levy.
