Cover Letter Generator for Any Job in Kenya

Tap “Write a cover letter for this job” on any JobInKenya advert and this page fills in the job title and employer for you. Everything you type stays on your phone.

Most Kenyan employers still read a one-page cover letter before they open a CV, and many shortlisting panels score it. The letters that fail are the ones copied from the internet, sent to the wrong company, or that never mention what the advert asked for. This generator builds a properly laid out Kenyan application letter (your address on the right, the employer’s on the left, a bold RE: line) and leaves the important paragraph for you to write.

How to write the paragraph that gets you shortlisted

Open the advert and copy the list of duties and requirements. Pick the two or three that matter most, then write one or two sentences for each showing where you have done it. Use numbers where you can: “handled petty cash of about KES 50,000 a month”, “served around 80 customers a day”, “supervised 6 casuals”. A panel comparing 300 letters notices numbers and the exact words from its own advert.

Rules Kenyan HR officers mention again and again

  • Address it to the person or office named in the advert, e.g. “The Secretary, County Public Service Board”. If none is named, use “The Human Resource Manager”.
  • Quote the job reference number in the RE: line. Government adverts often have several posts open at once.
  • Keep it to one page. If it spills over, cut the “why this employer” paragraph, not the matching one.
  • Use “Yours faithfully” with “Dear Sir/Madam”, and “Yours sincerely” only when you used the person’s name.
  • Name the attachments the advert asks for. For government jobs these often include clearance certificates; see our clearance helper.
  • Never pay anyone to “process” your application. Genuine employers do not charge.

Worked example

For an Accounts Assistant advert asking for “bank reconciliations, KRA returns and QuickBooks”, a strong matching paragraph reads: “In my 18 months at Kimani Hardware I prepared monthly bank reconciliations for two accounts, filed the company’s monthly VAT and PAYE returns on iTax, and kept the books in QuickBooks.” Three duties, three proofs, one paragraph.
