Every question here was written by JobInKenya for practice. None is copied from an employer’s test, a paid test provider or a leaked paper.
Kenya Ports Authority, KCB, Safaricom, the Big Four audit firms and many graduate trainee programmes screen applicants with an online aptitude test before any interview. Most people who fail them are not weak; they are slow, because they have never practised against a clock. Pick a section below. The clock runs like an invigilator’s, each answer is explained, and your marks are kept on a mark sheet on this phone.
What the three sections test
Numerical reasoning is Form Four maths under time pressure: percentages, ratios, simple interest, speed and reading tables. You rarely need anything harder than a calculator, but you need to know which operation to use without hesitating. Verbal reasoning checks vocabulary, grammar and whether you can tell what a passage actually says, as opposed to what seems likely. Logical or abstract reasoning uses letter and number series, codes, seating puzzles and rotating shapes. It is the section where practice helps most, because the same few patterns come up again and again.
How to prepare in two weeks
- Do one timed section a day. Read every explanation, including for questions you got right.
- Write down the pattern types you miss (for example “letter gaps that grow”) and practise those.
- Use the calculator you will have on the day. Many online tests allow an on-screen or phone calculator.
- Sit the real test somewhere quiet with good network. Tests often cannot be paused.
Worked example
“Sales rose from KES 240,000 to KES 276,000. What is the percentage increase?” Find the change (36,000), divide by the starting value (240,000) and multiply by 100: 15%. The common mistake is dividing by the new figure, which gives 13%, and that wrong answer is usually one of the options.
A warning about “past papers”
Sites selling “KPA aptitude test past papers” or “Safaricom test answers” are either recycling generic questions or selling something that would breach the test’s rules. Employers rotate question banks, and some disqualify candidates who use leaked material. Practise the skills instead.
