Safaricom Interview Questions: HireVue and Panel Practice

These are practice questions written by JobInKenya for the formats candidates publicly describe. They are not Safaricom’s questions or answers. Last checked: 24 October 2026.

Safaricom’s internship and graduate programmes draw thousands of applicants, and the process usually starts long before you meet a person. Candidates who have posted about it describe a recorded one-way video interview on HireVue: a few questions, around 30 seconds to read each prompt, and a short timed window to answer on camera. Technical tracks add a skills assessment. Software candidates have mentioned coding and API questions, and one cybersecurity candidate described 25 questions in 10 minutes. Later stages are panel interviews.

How to handle a HireVue video interview

  • Test your setup first. Use a laptop or a steady phone, a quiet room, light in front of you, and enough bundles. Close other apps.
  • Use the practice question HireVue offers before the real ones.
  • Answer in STAR form (Situation, Task, Action, Result) and stop when you have finished. Thirty seconds of silence looks worse than a short, complete answer.
  • Look at the camera, not your own face on the screen.

Practice questions

Why do you want to join Safaricom?

Link a specific product or programme to your own interest: M-PESA and financial inclusion, connectivity in rural areas, or the technology team. Show you know the business beyond “it is a big company”.

Tell us about a time you received critical feedback.

Pick a real example, show that you listened, what you changed and the better result. Avoid examples where you argue the feedback was unfair.

Describe a time you worked in a team that disagreed.

Explain how you helped the team reach a decision: listening, using facts, agreeing on a goal. Give the outcome.

Tell us about something you built or improved.

For technical roles, name the tools and your exact part. For other roles, a process you made faster or a club project you led works well.

How would you explain M-PESA fees to a first-time user?

Use simple words and an example amount. Panels are checking that you can explain clearly to ordinary customers.

How do you work under pressure with several deadlines?

Show a method: list tasks, rank by urgency and impact, tell people early if something will slip. Give a real example from exams or work.

What would you do if you saw a colleague sharing customer data?

Customer privacy is a legal duty under the Data Protection Act 2019. Say you would stop it if safe, and report it through the proper channel.

Where do you see technology in Kenya in five years?

Give one clear, reasoned view, e.g. more services through mobile money or AI in customer care, and how you hope to contribute.

Watch out

Safaricom does not charge for internships or interviews. Fake “Safaricom recruitment” pages asking for fees circulate regularly; check any you see with our fake job advert checker.
