KCB Bank Interview Questions and How to Prepare

These are practice questions written by JobInKenya around the stages candidates publicly describe. They are not leaked questions or answers from KCB. Last checked: 24 October 2026.

KCB Bank Kenya is one of the most searched employers on JobInKenya, from graduate trainee and relationship officer roles to the KCB Foundation scholarship interviews. Candidates who have shared their experience on public review sites describe a similar route: an online aptitude test (verbal, numerical, diagrammatic and situational judgement), a personality questionnaire, then a panel interview. KCB itself, in a 2019 post on its own blog, gives three tips: arrive early (and call if you are late), be honest about your abilities, and research the bank’s products and history before you walk in.

Stage 1: the aptitude test

Reported tests mix numbers, words and shapes, and they are timed. Practise with our free aptitude test practice, which has a timer and explains every answer.

Stage 2: panel interview practice questions

Tell us about yourself.

Keep it to 90 seconds: what you studied, your most relevant experience, and why banking. End by linking to the role, e.g. “which is why the relationship officer role fits me.”

Why KCB and not another bank?

Show you did your homework. Mention something specific and public: its regional presence, a product you use such as KCB M-PESA, or its foundation programmes. Avoid “it is the biggest bank”.

A customer is angry because a transfer has not reflected. What do you do?

Listen without interrupting, apologise for the inconvenience, check the transaction status, explain clearly what happens next and when, and follow up. Panels are listening for calm, ownership and follow-through.

Describe a time you met a target.

Use STAR: Situation, Task, Action, Result. Give a number in the result, e.g. “signed up 40 new members to the chama savings scheme in a month against a target of 30.”

A colleague asks you to process a transaction without the required documents “just this once”. What do you do?

Integrity questions are common in banking. Decline politely, explain the policy, and escalate to your supervisor if pressure continues. Never suggest bending rules to please someone.

How would you sell a savings product to a boda boda rider?

Start with his needs (irregular daily income, wanting a bike of his own), then match a feature to each need. Keep it simple and avoid jargon.

What do you know about digital banking in Kenya?

Talk about mobile money integration, mobile loans and responsible lending, and customer data protection under the Data Protection Act 2019.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Show ambition that fits the bank, e.g. growing from relationship officer to branch or business manager, and the professional exams you plan to take.

What questions do you have for us?

Always ask one or two: how performance is measured in the first six months, or what training new officers receive.

For KCB Foundation scholarship interviews

Scholarship panels focus on your background, your goals and your leadership in school or community. Be honest about your family situation and specific about what you will study and why. Bring every document listed in the invitation.

Watch out

KCB does not charge for applications, tests or interviews. Treat any “KCB recruitment” message asking for a fee as fake and check it with our fake job advert checker.
