Jobs in Nakuru: Who Is Hiring, County Jobs and Where to Look

Nakuru is one of Kenya’s fastest-growing urban areas, sitting on the main highway between Nairobi and western Kenya and surrounded by some of the country’s richest farmland. That mix of farming, trade, transport, health care, hospitality and county government makes jobs in Nakuru one of the most common local job searches in the Rift Valley. This guide covers the sectors that hire, the employers that have advertised Nakuru roles on JobInKenya recently, how the county government recruits, and how to search without wasting money on fake offers.
The sectors that hire in Nakuru
Health care
Nakuru has a large concentration of private hospitals serving the town and surrounding counties. In the past two weeks alone, Nakuru roles listed on JobInKenya have included a deputy nurse in-charge for accident and emergency at Valley Hospital, a receptionist at Jalaram Hospital, and a business development officer and a store manager at Optimum Hospital. Health jobs are not only clinical: hospitals also hire for front office, stores, finance, marketing and maintenance. See health care jobs, and if you are a nurse, our nursing career guide.
Hospitality and tourism
Lake Nakuru National Park, Lake Naivasha and Lake Elementaita bring visitors all year, and the town hosts conferences and events. Hotels hire chefs, waiters, housekeepers, front office staff and sales people; a pastry chef role at The Encore Hotel was one recent example. Browse hospitality jobs for current openings.
Sales, finance and distribution
Nakuru is a regional base for distributors, banks, microfinance lenders and energy companies covering the Rift Valley. Recent listings include an area sales manager at Proto Energy and a branch manager at Brisk Credit. Sales roles are often the fastest route into employment for people without much experience, and they reward people who know the area and speak the local languages.
NGOs and development
Several humanitarian and development organisations run Rift Valley programmes from Nakuru. Save the Children and DanChurchAid have both advertised roles linked to Nakuru recently, including a driver post. Read our guide to NGO jobs in Kenya before applying, because NGO applications have their own style.
Agriculture and agribusiness
Farming is the backbone of the wider county: dairy, horticulture, flowers, maize, wheat and livestock. Agribusinesses, cooperatives, flower farms and input suppliers hire farm managers, agronomists, quality controllers, drivers, machine operators and general workers. Many of these jobs are advertised on farm notice boards and through word of mouth rather than online, so visiting farms and cooperatives in person still works.
County government jobs in Nakuru
The County Government of Nakuru hires through the Nakuru County Public Service Board, which runs an online recruitment portal at recruitment.nakuru.go.ke. Unlike many employers, the board prints the salary scale in each advert.
Its October 2026 round is a good example of what the county hires for. It covered 84 posts across 29 adverts, from 24 Youth Polytechnic Instructor III posts to clerical officers, drivers, plant operators, ICT officers, building and electrical inspectors, veterinary, livestock and fisheries officers, and a county attorney. Clerical Officer II posts (Job Group F) carried a basic salary scale of KSh 20,560–26,460 a month, and Job Group K officer posts KSh 41,420–57,230. The full table, deadlines and requirements are on our Nakuru County jobs October 2026 page.
County jobs are open to all Kenyans who meet the requirements, but adverts usually ask for documents such as your national ID, academic and professional certificates, and clearance certificates for senior posts. Prepare them early with our clearance certificates checklist, and read how to apply for government jobs in Kenya. Other open county rounds are on our county government jobs page.

Applying from outside Nakuru
Many people apply for Nakuru jobs from Nairobi, Eldoret or home counties. Employers in a regional town often prefer candidates who already live there or can start quickly, because relocation can fail. If you are moving, say so clearly in your cover letter: when you can start and whether you already have accommodation or family in the area. Use our cover letter generator to make that point in the first paragraph, and check the take-home pay of any offer with the net salary calculator before you commit to the move.
Red flags to watch for
Fake adverts target regional towns too. Be careful if an “employer” asks you to pay for training, uniforms, medical tests or a “registration fee” before a job starts, if the contact is only a WhatsApp number, or if the advert promises high pay for no experience. A genuine county job never requires payment to a personal phone number. Check suspicious adverts with our Fake Job Advert Checker.
