Free CV Checkers in Kenya Compared (2026)

A CV checker gives your CV a score and points out problems before you send it to an employer. Many large employers in Kenya, including banks, telcos and international NGOs, take applications through online portals that read your CV with software first, so a CV that the software cannot read can be screened out before a person sees it. This guide compares the free CV checkers aimed at Kenyan job seekers in 2026: what each one checks, what happens to your file, and what each charges if you want more help. We looked at each tool’s own page on 25 October 2026.

Disclosure: JobInKenya runs one of the checkers below. We describe ours in the same way as the others and point out where another tool does something ours does not.

The checkers compared

Checker How it works Your file Paid help
JobInKenya CV Checker (ours) Upload a PDF or Word CV, optionally paste the job advert, and get a score out of 100 across seven areas: readable format, sections, bullets with results, length, contact details, match with the advert, and Kenya-specific checks. For public service adverts it adds a clearance certificate checklist. Read in your browser; the CV is not uploaded to our server. CV rewrites are planned but orders are not open yet.
CVChapChap PDF or Word up to 4MB, score out of 100 with issues grouped in four areas, including spelling, grammar and dates. Says the file is read once and not saved. Can rebuild your CV in a template with AI wording help.
Kyondo Checks how well your CV matches a job and how easily software can read it. Says the file is checked on the spot and not saved. CV and cover letter help from USD 10, by text or WhatsApp.
Job Experts in Kenya A 20-point self-audit checklist: you tick what is true and get a score. It does not read your file. Nothing is uploaded unless you send it on WhatsApp for a review. Professional CV writing on request.
Kenya Jobs Hub CV Match AI analysis of a CV (PDF, DOC or DOCX up to 10MB) against a job description you paste. Uploaded for processing; read its privacy notes before use. Not stated on the page.

Which one should you use?

If privacy matters most, choose a tool that does not keep your file. Ours reads the CV in your browser, while CVChapChap and Kyondo say they do not save the file after checking. If you want spelling and grammar feedback, CVChapChap explicitly checks those. If you have no file yet or prefer to think it through yourself, the Job Experts checklist works without uploading anything. If you are applying for a specific job, pick a checker that compares your CV with the advert, which ours, Kyondo and Kenya Jobs Hub do.

Running your CV through two different checkers is a sensible cross-check. They score differently, so compare the problems they find rather than the numbers.

What every checker is really looking for

  • Readable layout: text boxes, tables, columns and images often scramble when software reads them. A single-column CV with standard headings is safest.
  • Standard sections: a short profile, work experience with dates, education, skills and referees or a note that they are available.
  • Results, not only duties: “cut stock losses by reconciling weekly counts” says more than “responsible for stock”.
  • Words from the advert: if the advert asks for “donor reporting” or “IFRS”, those words should appear where they are true.
  • Contact details: a professional email address and a phone number that works.

Kenyan CVs also have local habits worth reviewing. You do not need to include your ID number, marital status or religion for most private sector jobs. Government jobs ask for clearance certificates from KRA, HELB, the DCI, a CRB and the EACC, which our clearance certificates guide explains step by step.

Limits of any score

A high score does not guarantee an interview and a low one does not mean you are unqualified. Applicant tracking systems differ between employers, and no free tool can see exactly how a particular employer’s system is set up. Treat the score as a list of things to fix, then have a person you trust read the final version.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free CV checker in Kenya?

Yes. All five tools above can be used free. Some offer paid writing help afterwards.

Is it safe to upload my CV?

It depends on the tool. Choose one that says it does not store your file, or one that reads it in your browser, and avoid sending your ID number or other sensitive details in the CV at all.
