TSC Jobs and Teacher Recruitment in Kenya: Open Adverts and How to Apply
Teachers Service Commission adverts that are open today, taken from tsc.go.ke, plus a guide to how TSC hires teachers, promotes them and recruits Secretariat staff.

Who the Teachers Service Commission hires
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is an independent commission created by Article 237 of the Constitution. It registers teachers, recruits and employs registered teachers for public schools, deploys and promotes them, and handles discipline. In law, teaching in a Kenyan school without being registered is an offence. That is why registration with TSC, and holding a TSC number, comes before any TSC job application.
TSC runs two separate kinds of recruitment:
- Teacher recruitment and promotion. This covers new teachers for primary, junior and senior schools, replacement of teachers who leave the service, teacher internships, and promotional posts such as Deputy Headteacher, Senior Master and Deputy Principal for serving teachers.
- Secretariat recruitment. This covers staff who work at TSC headquarters and county offices, such as human resource, finance, ICT, legal and records officers, plus top posts such as the Secretary/Chief Executive Officer.
Where TSC advertises
TSC publishes teacher adverts, the distribution of vacancies by county, and recruitment guidelines in the “Current Adverts – Teachers” downloads section of tsc.go.ke. Teachers apply online through the TSC teachers’ portal (teachersonline.go.ke / tsconline.tsc.go.ke). Secretariat jobs are listed under “Current Adverts – Secretariat”, and applications go through the TSC Secretariat recruitment portal. Major adverts are also published through the Government Advertising Agency and in the newspapers.
TSC’s own portal states that applying online means you do not need to send a hard copy, and that no payment of any kind is required. Anyone selling “TSC slots” or charging to place you is a fraudster.
What is open right now
On 17 October 2026, the only open TSC advert we could verify on tsc.go.ke was the Secretary/Chief Executive Officer vacancy (TSC/CS/001/2026), which closes on 30 October 2026 at 5:00 pm. Its round page is listed above. TSC’s advertised-posts portal showed no open teacher vacancies when we checked.
In early October 2026, the TSC chairperson told the media that the Commission plans another teacher recruitment exercise in November 2026 to replace teachers who have left the service. No official advert, vacancy numbers or deadline had been published by 17 October. We will add a round page as soon as TSC publishes the advert on tsc.go.ke. Until then, ignore any “TSC recruitment form” circulating on WhatsApp.
Recent TSC rounds that have closed
These rounds are useful for understanding how TSC recruits:
- A re-advertisement of promotional vacancies for Deputy Principal III, Senior Master II and Deputy Headteacher II. Serving teachers applied online by midnight on 14 September 2026.
- Secretariat internships for 2026–2027: 30 internships in six areas, open to unemployed graduates aged 21 to 35, with a KSh 25,000 monthly stipend. Applications closed on 28 August 2026.
How to prepare for the next teacher recruitment
- Make sure you are registered and that your TSC number and details are correct on the TSC portal.
- Keep certified copies of your KCSE certificate, college or university certificates and transcripts, ID, and teaching practice records ready to upload or present.
- When the advert comes out, read the distribution list to see which counties and subjects have vacancies. Then read the guidelines carefully, because TSC scores applicants on criteria such as when they graduated.
- Apply only through the official portal before the deadline, and keep your application summary.
Promotional posts are usually decided on years served in the current grade and on a satisfactory appraisal rating. Check the “Requirements for appointment” for your grade in each advert. For Secretariat jobs you will need the usual Chapter Six clearances (KRA tax compliance, HELB, EACC, a Certificate of Good Conduct from the DCI and a credit reference bureau report) if you are selected.
Teacher salaries are set in TSC’s scheme of service and collective bargaining agreements. Our salary database lists the pay figures we have verified from official documents. Use the net salary calculator to see take-home pay after PAYE, SHIF, NSSF and the Housing Levy.
