Judiciary and JSC Jobs in Kenya: Current Vacancies and How to Apply
The current status of Judiciary and Judicial Service Commission recruitment, checked on the official websites, and how judicial recruitment works.
Open rounds
Is the Judiciary hiring right now?
When we checked on 17 October 2026, we could not verify any open Judiciary or Judicial Service Commission (JSC) recruitment round. The JSC jobs page sends applicants to its e-recruitment portal, but no live vacancy was listed there for us to confirm, and the vacancies page on judiciary.go.ke linked only an older advert. The most recent JSC adverts we found had closed:
- Judges of the Supreme Court (V/No.1/2026), which closed in February 2026.
- Chairpersons for the Business Premises Rent Tribunal (V/No.17/2026) and the Land Acquisition Tribunal (V/No.15/2026), which closed in June 2026.
We check jsc.go.ke and judiciary.go.ke every day. A new round will be added here with its own page as soon as it is published.
Who recruits for the Judiciary
The Judicial Service Commission is established by Article 171 of the Constitution. Its job is to promote the independence and accountability of the Judiciary. It recommends judges for appointment by the President, and it appoints, disciplines and removes registrars, magistrates, Kadhis and other judicial officers and staff. This means the JSC recruits two broad groups:
- Judges and judicial officers: judges of the superior courts, magistrates, Kadhis, registrars and tribunal chairpersons and members.
- Judiciary staff: legal researchers, court clerks and court administrators, accountants, ICT officers, drivers, security staff, interpreters and other support roles at the courts and at Judiciary headquarters.
Judiciary jobs do not go through the Public Service Commission.
How to apply
JSC adverts are published on jsc.go.ke, on the Judiciary website, through the Government Advertising Agency and in the newspapers. Applications are made through the JSC e-recruitment portal (recruitment.jsc.go.ke). There you create an account, complete your profile and apply to each vacancy by its V/No. reference before the deadline. The JSC support contacts listed on the portal are +254 20 273 9180 and jscdata.ict@jsc.go.ke.
For senior judicial posts, the JSC publishes the list of applicants, invites comments from the public, publishes the shortlist and interview schedule, and holds interviews in public. Expect your professional record, published judgments or writing, and any complaints against you to be examined. Candidates for any post must meet Chapter Six of the Constitution and usually provide Chapter Six clearances (KRA tax compliance, HELB, EACC, a Certificate of Good Conduct from the DCI and a credit reference bureau report).
Requirements and pay
Minimum requirements are set by the Constitution for judges (for example, years of experience as an advocate, judicial officer or legal academic) and by the JSC’s schemes of service for other posts. Each advert spells them out. Pay for judges and judicial officers is set by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission. The February 2026 Supreme Court advert, for instance, gave a gross monthly package of KSh 956,192 to KSh 1,268,996, excluding benefits. Figures for other posts are in each advert.
Build your profile while you wait
- Lawyers aiming for magistrate or legal researcher posts should keep their practising certificate current and their Law Society of Kenya standing clean.
- Support-staff applicants should have their certificates, ID and Chapter Six clearances ready, since some adverts are open for only two or three weeks.
- Sign up for free job alerts, and check the other open government rounds on this hub.
The JSC warns that it does not charge applicants and that canvassing leads to disqualification. Ignore anyone offering to “facilitate” a Judiciary job.
