How to Write a Sales and Marketing CV in Kenya That Proves You Can Sell
Sales and marketing roles are among the most advertised jobs in Kenya, from field sales and merchandising to key accounts, digital marketing and brand management. Because so many people apply, hiring managers look for one thing above all: proof that you have moved numbers. A sales and marketing CV that leads with targets met, accounts won and campaigns delivered will beat a longer CV full of duties. This guide shows you how to write one for Kenyan employers, and the free CV builder will lay it out.
Lead With Results
Your profile and every job entry should carry at least one measurable result. Good examples: “Achieved 112% of a KES 3 million monthly target across 40 outlets in Nakuru”, “Opened 25 new retail accounts in six months”, “Grew Instagram followers from 4,000 to 30,000 and cut cost per lead by a third”. Use real figures from your sales reports or dashboards and be ready to explain them in an interview. Recruiters often ask how you hit a target and what you would do differently.
Sales and Marketing CV Structure
- Name, phone, email, town and a headline such as “Field Sales Executive, FMCG”.
- Profile: years of experience, sector, territory or channel, and your best result.
- Experience: company, product, territory or market, your title, dates and results.
- Education and certifications: degree or diploma, plus marketing, digital or sales training.
- Skills and tools: CRM systems, digital ad platforms, analytics, Excel, languages.
- Other: driving licence class if you can drive, which many field roles require.
- Referees: three, ideally sales managers who saw your numbers.
Name Your Territory, Channel and Product
Kenyan employers hire for specific markets. Say where you sold (towns, counties or regions), through which channel (retail, wholesale, distributors, corporate clients, online) and what you sold (FMCG, financial products, insurance, solar, telecoms, medical supplies, real estate). Someone hiring a bancassurance sales representative or a key account manager for supermarkets wants to see that experience at a glance.
For Marketing Roles, Show Campaigns and Tools
Marketing managers want to see what you planned and what it delivered. List the campaigns you ran, the budget if you can share it, the platforms used and the outcome. Name the tools you know, for example Meta and Google ad managers, analytics, email platforms, design tools and CRM systems. Add a link to a portfolio or a few campaign samples if you have them; for digital roles this is often expected.
Entry-Level and Career Changers
If you are new to sales, show the qualities employers hire for: confidence with people, persistence and comfort with targets. Use any evidence you have, such as a business you ran, a campus event you promoted, a holiday job in a shop or merchandising, or a commission-based role. Many first roles are titled sales representative, brand ambassador or merchandiser, so use those words.
Common Mistakes
- Listing “responsible for sales” without a single figure.
- Leaving out the territory or product, which makes it hard to match you to a role.
- Using an email address or social handle that looks unprofessional.
- Claiming results you cannot back up when asked.
