Kenya Defence Forces recruitment happens in rounds announced by the Ministry of Defence. Selection includes document checks, physical and medical tests, and interviews. As of 24 October 2026, KDF says no recruitment is ongoing, so this page is for preparing ahead of the next official round.
What the Official Sources Say
The MoD says requirements vary by category, including General Duty Recruits, Defence Forces Constables, General Service Officer and Graduate General Service Officer cadets, and Specialist Officers. Applicants must meet the academic, age, physical, medical and other requirements in the advert for that cycle, present original documents at recruitment and verification, and should not pay anyone to secure a slot. Recruitment dates come only from the MoD website and verified KDF social media.
Getting Ready Before the Next Round
Because rounds open with short notice, prepare now. Keep your ID, birth certificate, KCSE certificate and result slip, school leaving certificate and any college certificates together with copies. Build fitness steadily with running, push-ups and sit-ups rather than cramming in the last week, and treat any minor injuries early. Check that you will still be within the age limit when the next advert comes out; the limits are set per category in each advert. Follow the official MoD website and the verified @kdfinfo account, and ignore notices shared only on WhatsApp groups or Facebook pages.
Practice Questions
Why do you want to join KDF?
Talk about service, discipline and the specific branch or trade you are applying for. Know the difference between the Kenya Army, Kenya Air Force and Kenya Navy.
Why are you applying in this category and not another?
Show you read the advert: your grades or qualifications, and how they match the category.
Describe a time you worked in a team under pressure.
Use a real example from school, sport, work or NYS, and your specific part in it.
Someone says he can guarantee you a place for money. What do you do?
Refuse and report it. The MoD says nobody needs to pay for a slot.
How would you cope with being posted far from home for a long time?
Show maturity: family support, adaptability and commitment.
What do you know about the role of KDF in the country?
Mention defending the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and supporting civil authorities in emergencies when deployed lawfully.
These are practice questions we built from the official criteria above. They are not leaked or official interview questions, and real panels may ask different ones. Never pay anyone who offers “the actual questions” or a guaranteed slot: report it to DCI on 0800 722 203.
