The Role: Delivering Excellence in Maternity & Neonatal Care
This Nurse/Midwife position is a locum (part-time, experienced) role reporting to the Nurse In-Charge at the Ngong Road Branch. You’ll provide comprehensive maternity and neonatal care in a low-risk setting, with flexibility to support high-volume clinical needs. This is a hands-on role for nurses with at least 5 years of maternity experience and 2 years in a busy Neonatal Care Unit (NBU).
Key Responsibilities
Maternity & Midwifery Care
- Deliver comprehensive antenatal, postnatal, family planning, and delivery services for low- and high-risk clients.
- Scrub in for theatre procedures and follow Jacaranda’s clinical protocols.
- Provide counseling, education, and birth-preparedness training to individuals and groups.
- Ensure excellent customer experience through clear communication, especially during emergencies or delays.
- Collaborate with the Outreach Team, CHWs, and traditional birth attendants for community education and marketing.
Neonatal Care (NBU)
- Provide immediate and continuous care for preterm, sick, or high-risk neonates.
- Oversee nursery operations, including equipment maintenance and neonatal resuscitation drills.
- Monitor vital signs, administer medications, and educate parents on newborn care.
- Lead neonatal resuscitation training for clinical staff.
Compliance & Operations
- Adhere to Nursing Council of Kenya scope of practice, SOPs, and hospital protocols.
- Maintain accurate records using electronic medical systems (EMR).
- Ensure compliance with institutional policies and high-risk care standards.
Qualifications and Skills

- Diploma or Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Active Nursing License from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- 5+ years in maternity/MCH/FP in a busy facility; experience in a startup maternity is a plus.
- 2+ years in a busy NBU with high-risk neonatal care.
- Proven experience managing high-risk conditions (e.g., preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, multiples).
- Familiarity with CTG machines and interpretation of strips.
- Strong communication, empathy, and analytical skills.
- Leadership experience and neonatal/pediatric certification are added advantages.
