  • Attend technical defence and inception meetings to shape program direction and stakeholder alignment.
  • Provide specialized technical advice and support in the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of trade and economic initiatives tailored to community and institutional needs.
  • Oversee the implementation of research projects, including data collection, economic analysis, and interpretation, ensuring adherence to research protocols and ethical standards.
  • Provide training and capacity building to research teams, partner organizations, and stakeholders on trade-related methodologies, economic modelling, and policy tools.
  • Translate research findings into actionable recommendations for improving trade facilitation, market systems, and economic inclusion.
  • Compile data; prepare reports, and document project activities and outcomes for internal and external dissemination.
  • Conduct capacity assessments and facilitate capacity-building activities for stakeholders involved in trade and economic development, including workshops, knowledge-sharing sessions, and technical programs.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop comprehensive trade and economic strategies aligned with organizational goals and donor requirements, ensuring sustainability and scalability.
  • Cultivate and maintain strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders—including government agencies, donors, academia, and civil society—to leverage resources and enhance program impact.
  • Keep up with emerging trends, best practices, and innovations in trade policy, economic development, and regional integration, and integrate learning into program design and implementation.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Master’s degree in Economics, International Trade, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in trade policy analysis, export development, or economic evaluation.
  • Proven expertise in trade facilitation, value chain economics, and regulatory reform.
  • Experience working with donor-funded programmes and government institutions.
  • Familiarity with EU-funded programme frameworks and results-based evaluations is an asset.
  • Demonstrate experience in conducting evaluations, surveys of similar nature using mixed methods approaches that meet recognized standards for credibility and rigor.
  • The consultant should have a strong command of evaluation methodologies, robust research capabilities and data collection techniques, and analysis frameworks and skills specific to the subject matter including expertise in qualitative and quantitative methodologies including both quantitative and qualitative approaches
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written) English.
