Scope of work and Key Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance of PASGR’s Research and Policy team, the Statistician will be responsible for providing technical leadership and support in statistical design, analysis, and quality assurance across PASGR programmes and projects. Specifically, the duties and responsibilities will include:
- Designing and implementing appropriate statistical methodologies for data collection, analysis, and interpretation across multiple research projects and country contexts;
- Providing technical advice on sampling design, survey tools, and data quality assurance mechanisms for household, firm, and institutional surveys;
- Supporting research teams in cleaning, validating, and analyzing quantitative and mixedmethods datasets to ensure methodological rigor and comparability;
- Managing, updating, and maintaining PASGR’s central research and data repositories, ensuring adherence to data governance and ethical standards;
- Conducting advanced statistical analyses and generating evidence to support policy briefs, reports, and peer-reviewed publications;
- Preparing clear and user-friendly data visualizations, dashboards, and statistical summaries to enhance evidence communication;
- Contributing to capacity strengthening of research teams through mentorship and training in statistical tools and analytical techniques;
- Assisting in the development and review of statistical and data management policies and procedures within PASGR; and
- Preparing and submitting periodic analytical reports and technical notes to inform programme learning and policy engagement.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate should possess:
- A Master’s Degree or PhD in Statistics, Applied Statistics, Biostatistics, Economics, Data Science, or a related quantitative discipline from a recognized institution;
- At least Five (5) years of relevant professional experience in applied statistical analysis, preferably within research, academia, or policy-oriented institutions;
- Demonstrated proficiency in advanced statistical software (e.g., Stata, R, SPSS, or Python) and experience in analyzing complex, multi-country datasets;
- Proven ability to translate statistical outputs into clear, policy-relevant insights and visualizations;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary and multilingual teams; and
- Commitment to PASGR’s values of excellence, integrity, inclusivity, and evidence-informed policy engagement.
