Position Overview

JENGE Village is recruiting an experienced Senior Legal Associate to provide strategic legal oversight, quality assurance, and advanced legal services to our members. This part-time role requires a seasoned professional with at least 5 years of experience who can mentor junior associates while ensuring legal excellence, risk management, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide regular oversight to Legal Associates.
  • Review legal documents, contracts, and advice for accuracy, completeness, and risk mitigation.
  • Conduct quality assurance on legal research, drafting, and client deliverables.
  • Develop legal templates, precedents, and standard operating procedures.
  • Mentor and train Legal Associates on legal analysis, drafting, and best practices.
  • Draft and negotiate complex commercial contracts and agreements.
  • Handle sophisticated legal matters requiring advanced judgment and expertise.
  • Provide legal advice on business transactions, restructuring, and corporate matters.
  • Advise on employment law issues including contracts, policies, and dispute resolution.
  • Manage compliance programs and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessments and provide mitigation strategies.
  • Handle escalated legal issues and provide solutions to complex problems.
  • Coordinate workflow distribution among Legal Associates.
  • Advise on intellectual property strategy, protection, and enforcement.
  • Draft and review shareholder agreements, partnership agreements, and governance documents.
  • Liaise with external counsel, courts, and regulatory bodies.
  • Provide guidance on data protection, privacy, and cybersecurity compliance.
  • Support business development by advising on legal market trends and complex mandates.
  • Advise on dispute resolution strategies and manage litigation support.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive post-qualification legal experience.
  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognized institution.
  • Admitted to the Bar with active practicing certificate in relevant jurisdiction.
  • Proven supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Advanced legal drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Expert knowledge of Commercial law, Corporate law, and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong risk assessment and management capabilities.
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making abilities.
  • Outstanding communication and client advisory skills.
  • Experience managing complex legal matters and transactions.
  • Ability to explain legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Laws (LL.M) or specialized legal qualification.
  • Experience in corporate/commercial law practice.
  • Specialized legal expertise (employment, IP, tax, real estate, technology law).
  • Experience in multi-jurisdictional matters.
  • Qualified as a Notary Public or Commissioner for Oaths.
  • Training or mentoring certification.
  • Experience with client relationship management.
  • Published legal articles or thought leadership.
  • Experience with legal technology solutions.
