Job Description
The role is responsible for overseeing and supporting all database installations within the Old mutual ecosystem. The role also supports backup and data warehouse requirements from various business entities and divisions, as well as ICT and digital teams. The role also requires the job holder to ensure the databases are optimized to ensure applications are running optimally and securely. The role requires close collaboration with the ICT Security team to ensure compliance on database patching and CIS configurations.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Routine Database administration
- Database & and Data warehouse management
- Back –up and recovery management
- Business and digital team Support
- Routine patching of the databases.
- CIS compliance remediation on database configurations based on best practice recommendations.

Knowledge and Experience
- Experience working with business intelligence tools such as Power BI
- Good understanding of Software Development Life Cycle and Methodologies
- Experience working with a Data Warehouse and/or relational databases is required. Knowledge in MS SQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL and MySQL databases is required.
- Knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems.
- Solid understanding of data modelling, extraction, transformation and batch load processing is required.
- Highly motivated and self-directed individual with the discipline to deliver within agreed timelines
- Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment
- Ability to prioritize work under the pressure of deadlines
- Demonstrated analytical skills
- Good problem-solving skills
- Good project management skills
- Strong collaborative skills with functional area management and business analysts and IT staff
- Skilled in database security configuration
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Database administration
- Certified Database administrator with in-depth understanding of both Oracle, MS SQL, MySQL and PostgreSQL databases.
- Experience as a DBA on ORACLE 11g/SQL, MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL
- Deep understanding of current technology trends.
- Experience in customer screening /AML solutions will be an added advantage
