Job Summary
The Counselor is responsible for promoting student wellness, providing preventive services, and responding to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses personal/social development, and mental and social wellness for all students including staff members.

Duties and Essential Job Functions
- Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to learners and staff.
- Collaboratively develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling policy.
- Develop and maintain a written plan for the effective delivery of the school counseling program based on best practice approaches and in line with the school’s ethos.
- Make use of data to develop comprehensive programs that meet student needs.
- Implement appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities to meet student needs and school goals.
- Assist all students, individually or in groups, with developing career and personal/social skills, goals, and plans.
- Provide individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs.
- Provide individual counseling to staff.
- Develop and implement an effective referral and follow-up process as needed.
- Accurately and appropriately use assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual counseling services.
- Assist teachers, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders in interpreting and understanding student data.
- Conduct a yearly audit to review the counseling needs and trends in the school, and the extent to which the counseling program in the school is effective in its implementation, based on the data collected and analyzed.
- Prepare the results of such analysis in a manner that makes it possible to share the information with different stakeholders: students, teachers, parents, and guardians.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Counselling
- 3-5 years of relevant experience
- Registered with a counselor’s professional body in Kenya
- Experience in using assessment tools for determining and structuring individual and group counseling
- Solid understanding of child protection and psychology
- Professional counseling skills with a proven track record
- Great communicator
- Ability to exercise discretion in handling sensitive matters
Preferred
- Master’s degree in Counseling/Psychology
- Experience in the education industry
