The Relationship Manager, Chinese Desk, reporting to the Director, Commercial & SME Banking, will be responsible for growing and managing a portfolio of Chinese-owned businesses. The role is focused on delivering a healthy balance sheet through asset and deposit growth, offering tailored banking solutions and maintaining high-quality relationships with Chinese clients. The successful candidate will be the primary point of contact for this niche segment and will work closely with internal teams to deliver a superior customer experience aligned with NCBA’s growth strategy and drive revenue growth.

Key Accountabilities (Duties and Responsibilities)

Financial 45

  • Quality portfolio management to ensure that the recoveries are within the acceptable threshold.
  • Monitor and assess business performance and implement measures to drive growth and ensure a return on investment
  • Execute Go-to-Market plans and operational structures for the Chinese customer segment to achieve financial targets.
  • Drive sustainable balance sheet growth from Chinese owned businesses by delivering innovative and tailored financial solutions.
  • Engage the retail sales team to execute a roadmap focused on long-term scalability and development to achieve the intended value.
  • Engage essential customers and industry stakeholders to unlock growth opportunities and broaden product penetration through targeted cross-sell and seamless service delivery.

Internal Controls, Processes & Procedures 40

  • Ensure that the bank’s policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines are adhered to at all times.
  • Ensure all KYC & AML processes are followed with regards to new business and proper documentation is in place.
  • Review all information, documentation and loan application package obtained from the applicant for adequacy, completeness and compliance with Commercial and SME Banking requirements.
  • Contribute to the loan decision-making process by providing in- depth, high-quality credit analysis and comprehensive loan write up for presentation to the Credit Committee for review.
  • Monitor the loan related accounts for arrears and take remedial actions where necessary and work with the borrowers towards 0% portfolio at risk.
  • Follow up and obtaining of security documentation and other particulars stipulated in the sanction to facilitate perfection of security documentation and loan disbursement.
  • Client visits and unit inspections where there is lending to monitor the utilization of the loan proceeds and explore other opportunities of increasing the wealth share.
  • Monitor market dynamics and regulatory changes affecting the Chinese business community and disseminate it to internal teams to support performance improvement and informed decision making.
  • Ensure SLA agreements are adhered to, processes in place, reports generated, and target achieved.

Customer 10

  • Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with Chinese business customers, suppliers, and key stakeholders to drive strategic business development and revenue growth.
  • Foster strategic partner engagement to unlock value, grow revenue and profitability, enhance share of wallet, and maintain PAR within the bank’s guidelines.
  • Create opportunities to engage with relevant partners in a way that generates maximum value for our stakeholders.
  • Undertake market research and user research for data analysis that will inform product requirements to build customer-centric products.
  • Proactively identify customer needs not met by existing products and support the implementation of new customer- centric products and services.
  • Serve as the go to advisor for all banking needs, ensuring excellent service delivery and prompt resolution of issues.
  • Utilize the customer relationship management system aimed at customer acquisition, retention and maximizing on every relationship.
  • Develop and continuously review the account plans and
  • customer growth plans to ensure retention and satisfaction.

Qualifications

Academic:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business related field.
  • Master’s Degree will be an added advantage
  • Fluency in Chinese, both written and spoken

Professional Qualification:

  • CPA, ACCA, Credit Management, Customer Relationship Management Course.

Desired work experience:

  • Minimum 7 years banking experience in sales, customer service and relationship management, with at least 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Credit skills and knowledge of Commercial & SME Banking products and policies.
