Job Description

Job search can sometimes be frustrating especially if you don’t get responses after your applications.

For Sheilah Chepkwony, this challenge turned into a two-year of relentless application for countless jobs, facing the bitter taste of rejection and sometimes not even getting from the employers.

With her unwavering determination, she discovered Corporate Staffing Services through the Internet where she came across the role of Administrative and Academic Registrar we had advertised for our client in the training industry.

Let us find out the triumphant tale of her 2-year job search, and how CSS helped her to achieve professional success.

Tell us about yourself.

I am Sheilah Chepkwony, an administrative and operations professional with over eight experiences in research and training institutes, TVET institutions, investments & real estate, and the construction industry.

Am passionate and committed to promoting and preserving resources and intellectual capital and passionate in developing effective strategies to help the organization increase its productivity.

How long have you been looking for a job?

It took me two years. I had taken a break to concentrate on other areas of my life. It also took me a long time to get a job that fitted me based on my qualifications and experiences.

What has your job search experience been like?

It was a journey of learning, understanding the importance of having a professional CV, tailoring it to meet the demands of the employers, and navigating through the job search challenges.

At some point, it was a tiresome journey because I would send over 10 applications but wouldn’t get feedback, not even a regret email.

Are there any specific challenges you encountered in your job search process?

Yes, especially when it was difficult to find the right jobs that met the requirements. For the ones that I got, the salary range would be far different from what I was looking for.

Failure to get a response was also a challenge because it left me in confusion because I did not know if I was successful or not.

Where did you hear about Corporate Staffing and the job opportunity?

I learned about Corporate Staffing Services through the internet because I used to check various job boards to see if I would find a job to apply for.

CSS team was helpful in all the stages of the interview and very professional and they were available at every stage of the recruitment process till I started the job.

How was the application and interview process?

The application process was straightforward and to the point. It was about understanding my suitability for the role and I was updated on the progress and stages of the interview process.

Did you think you would get the job? Please give a reason.

Yes. I was optimistic and I felt that I connected with what the interviewers were looking for.

What do you think employers look for or check when selecting suitable candidates?

They mainly check your value proposition which is what you will bring to the table, if you are fit to the culture of the organization, and if your skills and experience align with what they are looking for.

Many professionals continue to look for jobs during this competitive job market. What is your advice to them?

The mantra of having a one-fits-all all CV does not work in the job market. For every role that you apply, tailor it and ensure it reflects the skills, experience, keywords, and qualifications that the employer is looking for.

What do you think is the secret to getting a job in this competitive market?

Expanding your networks and selling yourself right is essential. Things may not work out in your favour at times when looking for a job but patience and perseverance will motivate you to look forward to another day of success.

If you were to speak to any professional out there, what is one thing you would tell them to do to succeed this 2023?

Tomorrow’s success depends on what you do today. Invest in skill development, understand what the employers look for, prepare for interviews, and identify your unique values that can make you stand out in a competitive job market.
