We are seeking a Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) Associate to join our growing team at Octavia Carbon, Africa’s first Direct Air Capture (DAC) company. In this role, you will design and operationalize the frameworks that ensure our carbon removal projects meet the highest international integrity standards.

As a key bridge between our engineering, operations, and policy teams, you will translate field data and technical processes into verifiable climate impact. Your work will directly inform credit issuance, registry compliance, and engagement with verification bodies, helping to establish Kenya as a global hub for high-integrity carbon removals.

This position is ideal for an analytical and mission-driven early-career professional with a strong technical background in engineering, environmental science, or energy systems, and a deep curiosity for how carbon removal intersects with markets and policy. You will help design MRV systems, conduct lifecycle analyses, and ensure traceable data flow from plant operation through to credit issuance. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement Octavia’s MRV framework for Direct Air Capture and CO₂ storage projects, integrating monitoring, reporting, and verification processes into engineering, operations, and partner workflows.
  • Coordinate documentation for credit issuance, registry approvals, and third-party verification, ensuring data traceability and compliance with international standards.
  • Support lifecycle and emissions accounting by maintaining project inventories.
  • Track evolving carbon market frameworks, environmental regulations, and policy developments to inform project design and regulatory alignment.
  • Collaborate across teams and with external partners to identify and advance viable CO₂ storage pathways
  • through to verifiable, credit-ready stages.
  • Prepare clear technical summaries, reports, and communication materials for partners, regulators, and verification bodies, while continuously improving Octavia’s MRV systems to uphold the highest integrity standards in carbon removal.

Desired Qualifications.

  • Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related technical field.
  • Background in chemical, mechanical, environmental, or energy systems engineering is particularly relevant.
  • At least 6 months of hands-on experience in climate or carbon project work such as emissions accounting, MRV, LCA, or carbon market analysis.
  • Foundational understanding of carbon markets and climate policy.
  • Familiarity with project lifecycles, crediting standards, or Article 6 frameworks is an advantage.
  • Analytical and data-driven thinker.
  • Comfortable with spreadsheets, process calculations, and developing reasoned estimates from limited data.
  • Self-starter with strong problem-solving instincts.
  • Able to research, plan, and execute small projects independently while asking the right questions early.
  • Collaborative and communicative.
  • Works effectively across technical, policy, and external partner teams, clear and professional in written and verbal communication.
