Project Management Jobs, Penda Health Jobs.

Role Summary

The Senior Manager, Expansion & Strategic Projects plays a central role in steering Penda Health’s strategic growth by ensuring disciplined, efficient, and on-time delivery of key projects, particularly Medical Centre expansion initiatives.

This role turns strategic ideas into executable plans, ensuring clarity of responsibility, well-coordinated timelines, and smooth collaboration across all functions. It serves as the engine that keeps complex, multi-stakeholder projects moving forward — from concept and feasibility through to launch and post-implementation review.

While the primary focus is on managing expansion projects, the Senior Manager may also lead or support other cross-functional initiatives that enable business growth, operational efficiency, or strategic transformation.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Governance

  • Lead end-to-end management of projects, ensuring delivery on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Establish robust project governance structures that clearly define ownership, accountability, decision rights, and escalation paths across functions.
  • Create clarity and shared understanding among cross-functional teams through structured plans, updates, and documentation.
  • Anticipate risks and proactively remove barriers to maintain momentum and discipline.
  • Apply structured project management methodologies (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent) for consistency and transparency.
  • Build trust and alignment across stakeholders through clear communication and follow-through.

Stakeholder Engagement & Alignment

  • Serve as the central coordination point between internal teams and external partners to ensure alignment at every stage.
  • Facilitate regular project reviews and progress updates, giving leadership and stakeholders clear visibility.
  • Ensure decisions, risks, and actions are documented and transparently communicated.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with cross-functional leads to drive collaboration and shared accountability.

Project Planning & Delivery Performance

  • Translate strategic ideas into actionable project plans with clear timelines, budgets, and milestones.
  • Coordinate feasibility studies and due diligence to inform expansion decisions.
  • Develop and maintain standardized tools and dashboards for planning, tracking, and reporting.
  • Monitor key performance metrics (cost, time, quality, outcomes) and address performance gaps early.
  • Apply root cause analysis and structured problem-solving to strengthen delivery.
  • Capture and apply lessons learned to improve future project planning and execution.

Continuous Improvement

  • Provide project management support to cross-functional initiatives that drive growth or operational excellence.
  • Promote consistent project management practices through coaching, tools, and capacity building.
  • Identify issues early, address risks, and encourage learning across teams.
  • Champion a culture of improvement by using data and reflection to enhance delivery efficiency and impact.

Culture

  • Model Penda’s values by leading with rigor, empathy, and a bias for collaboration and results.
  • Foster a calm, solutions-oriented environment even under pressure or ambiguity.
  • Encourage ownership, accountability, and seamless collaboration among project contributors.
  • Reinforce The Penda Way through clear communication, inclusion, and celebration of team success.

Success Looks Like

  • Projects are delivered predictably, within budget, and with strong cross-functional alignment.
  • Teams operate with clarity and confidence, supported by structured plans and transparent tracking.
  • Launch and post-implementation reviews yield continuous improvements for future projects.
  • The organization demonstrates greater execution discipline, scalability, and agility.
  • The Senior Manager is recognized as a trusted, steady hand who ensures strategy turns into tangible, well-executed outcomes.

Education & Qualifications

  • PMP or equivalent formal project management certification (such as PRINCE2).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Business, or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum 7 years’ progressive experience leading complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale expansion or transformation projects across multiple functions or locations.
  • Strong record of delivering results through structured planning, risk management, and cross-functional collaboration.

Skills & Personal Attributes

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and facilitation abilities across technical and non-technical teams.
  • High learning agility and comfort with ambiguity.
  • Calm, composed, and solutions-driven under pressure.
  • Passionate about excellence and impact in mission-driven environments.
