Target driven, the post-holder will support the development, delivery and evaluation of international marketing and recruitment strategies for the university’s portfolio of programmes in designated territories. This will majorly be in the form of providing direct support to the current In-Country Manager for East Africa.

East Africa In-Country Assistant (Kenya) –

  • Being involved in the setting and the achievement of the student recruitment and sales targets for the assigned countries, in line with the university objectives.
  • Conversion of applicants to enrolments, through provision of relevant information in a timely and efficient manner to all stakeholders (e.g. agents, partners, prospective students and their advisers) using appropriate digital channels and by telephone, keeping a weekly call/ activity report.
  • Support the implementation and evaluation of the international strategy in the prescribed countries.
  • Working with the International Admissions team and other related posts in supporting the admission of international students.
  • Support the development of country plans that articulate market development priorities and opportunities.
  • To undertake international travel as and when needed in support of the work of the international office.
  • Additionally, to provide support for International Officers and academic colleagues travelling overseas.
  • To act as an ambassador of the international office as appropriate.
  • Working closely with the Alumni office and Director of Student Experience to develop and maintain effective alumni networks within the region.

  • To attend appropriate training sessions and ensure knowledge is kept up to date at all times;

  • To adhere to data protection/confidentiality requirements;
  • To work at weekends and out of hours as required and occasionally travel independently overseas as required.

  • Excellent organisational and project management skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and work to deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • An understanding of UKVI visa regulations and an ability to support students through the process.
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently
  • Innovative and able to think creatively
  • Goal oriented and able to demonstrate high levels of motivation
  • Good IT skills, with experience, knowledge and understanding of standard packages
  • Budget management skills
  • Able to effectively deliver presentations and highlight USPs of USW products.
  • Good Communication Skills in Swahili.

KNOWLEDGE

Desirable

  • Knowledge of UK Higher Education system
  • Knowledge of Kenyan and wider East Africa Education systems
  • Cultural awareness and experience in dealing with international organisations and individuals in and around Kenya.
  • Knowledge of political, economic and social issues affecting demand for UK higher education overseas
  • Demonstrable knowledge of digital marketing and social media campaign planning, ideally in an education context

Experience

  • Significant sales or marketing experience (preferably within the Higher Education sector or in an international marketing role)
  • Experience of digital marketing (web content editing, social media marketing and/or digital advertising)
  • Experience of visiting, living or studying overseas
  • Working in a busy environment
  • Proven experience in international student recruitment

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Formal marketing qualification
