Job Description

Let’s talk about interviews. You have gone to several interviews this month alone. You wear smartly and smile till your jaws hurt, but still have no callbacks or offers. Rejection emails if they are kind enough.

The silence is the worst part for most people. They always start wondering if they did something wrong during the interview. They start to wonder whether their skills and qualifications are enough. They start feeling like they are not good enough for the positions they want.

You’re not alone. A lot of people struggle with interviews, even the people who have years of experience and impressive CVs to back them up. I’ve seen them walk through these doors time and time again.

A Finance Manager who was struggling to get a job, let’s call him Brian, had gone to four interviews in three months with zero offers. He was frustrated and ready to settle for the next job that said “YES”. Even if it meant lowering his standards.

After getting the last rejection, he knew that what he lacked was not the skills, but a good strategy. That’s when he booked our one-on-one interview coaching session with Noella.

What happened next? Noella didn’t just help him with “interview prep.” She showed him how to tell his story with impact. How to answer tough questions with confidence. And finally, how to connect his experience to what employers really wanted.

Brian realized he was saying the right things, but not in the right way. After the two-hour session? He felt like there had been a shift. He walked into the next interview doors feeling more confident than ever. All his nerves disappeared.

He got an offer a few weeks later for a better role than the one he was chasing. So, what changed? Sometimes, it’s not your experience that’s holding you back.

Now let’s break down the 3 biggest reasons recruiters don’t call back based on real hiring insights.

Did your qualifications and experience match what they were looking for? For example, if the position called for a ‘key accounts manager’, while you are an accountant, or the position required an MBA in marketing, while you are a graduate with marketing experience, do not expect a call back.

Working in recruitment, I have heard recruitment account managers say to only apply for a position you are 80% qualified for. If you find they want something you don’t have, and it is a must, then it is better not to apply for that position.

Having the right skills and a perfect CV is the one thing that can open your doors. A good interview strategy is what will keep those doors open. If you don’t make an effort to research the companies you’re interviewing with, you’ll give the impression that you’re not serious about the opportunity or that you’re not willing to put in the effort to get hired.

According to Natalia, a senior recruiter, coming to the first interview unprepared is an immediate red flag.

You must prove to the employer that you are serious about the job to avoid being disqualified,” she adds.

Whenever an interviewer asks, “Do you have any questions for me?” Please let your answer always be YES!

Failing to offer any questions sends a message to the employer that you are not interested in the job or the company. You can come up with a list of questions relating to the job or company.

For example, how would you describe the leadership style in this company? What do you expect from team members in this position?

Asking these questions will lead the employer to believe that you want a shot at the job.

Someone can have an interview rejection even when they are very talented and skilled; it’s often about missed signals, small missteps, or simply not knowing what the employer truly wants to hear.

The great thing is, all that is fixable. You can learn and unlearn some things. You can walk into your next interview more prepared, more confident, and more in control of your narrative, even if you went through six failed ones like Brian. What you need is the right guidance. And that is why we are here.

If you’re tired of silence after interviews and ready to change your story, book your interview coaching session and finally get the chance to get your dream job.
