Position
The Human Resources Officer is responsible for supporting the effective management of the school’s human capital. This role ensures that HR policies and practices foster a positive, professional, and inclusive work environment aligned with the school’s mission and values. The officer will oversee recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, and compliance with employment regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment and Onboarding
- Coordinate the end-to-end recruitment process, including job postings, shortlisting, interviews, and selection.
- Develop and maintain accurate job descriptions for all school positions.
- Ensure smooth onboarding and orientation for new employees to promote engagement and integration into the school community.
Employee Relations and Welfare
- Serve as the first point of contact for employee inquiries, concerns, and grievances.
- Promote a supportive and respectful working culture consistent with the school’s values.
- Implement staff well-being and recognition initiatives.
Performance Management
- Support the development and implementation of performance appraisal systems.
- Guide supervisors and staff on performance goals and feedback processes.
- Maintain documentation and ensure fair and transparent evaluation procedures.
Policy Development and Compliance
- Ensure all HR policies comply with Kenyan labour laws and international best practices.
- Maintain updated personnel records, contracts, and documentation.
- Assist in disciplinary procedures in accordance with school policy.
Learning and Development
- Identify training and development needs for staff in collaboration with department heads.
- Coordinate workshops, professional development sessions, and capacity-building programs.
HR Administration
- Manage HR files and databases to ensure accuracy and confidentiality.
- Prepare HR reports and statistics to support decision-making.
- Coordinate payroll inputs and leave management in liaison with the Finance Department.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in human resource management, preferably in an educational or non-profit setting.
- Membership in the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) is an added advantage.
- Knowledge of Kenyan labour laws and HR best practices.
