Job Summary

To provide inspirational instructional leadership and expert management for all staff within the Junior School (Grade 7–Grade 9). The primary purpose is to mentor, coach, and professionally develop teachers to ensure high-quality teaching, effective implementation of the Kenyan Competency-Based Curriculum (CBE), and superior academic and pastoral outcomes for all students.

Instructional Leadership and Professional Development

  • Teaching Quality Ownership: Take full responsibility for the quality of teaching and learning in every classroom in the Junior School. Set and maintain exceptionally high standards for pedagogy and instructional delivery.
  • Coaching and Mentoring: Lead and implement a rigorous staff coaching and mentoring program. Conduct frequent, supportive, and developmental classroom observations, providing timely and constructive feedback to drive measurable improvements in teaching practice.
  • Curriculum Expertise (CBE): Work with the Head of Curriculum to ensure all teachers possess deep subject knowledge and are experts in applying the CBE’s learner-centered methodologies, including Project-Based Learning (PBL) and competency assessment.
  • CPD Strategy: Design, organize, and lead Continuous Professional Development (CPD) workshops focused on the most critical areas for staff improvement, such as differentiation, assessment techniques, and positive behaviour management.
  • Performance Management: Directly manage the performance appraisal cycle for all Junior School teachers, setting ambitious professional goals, monitoring progress, and ensuring accountability.

Staff Management and Team Building

  • Line Management: Provide direct line management to all Junior School teaching staff and relevant support staff.
  • Team Culture: Foster a culture of collaboration, high professionalism, and mutual support among the teaching team, encouraging the sharing of best practices and reflective practice.
  • Staff Deployment: Manage the effective and efficient deployment of staff and resources (human, material, and financial) across the Junior School to maximize learning opportunities and ensure workload equity.
  • Recruitment and Induction: Play a lead role in the recruitment and successful induction of new Junior School staff, ensuring they quickly assimilate into the school’s ethos and instructional expectations.

Academic and Pastoral Oversight

  • Academic Attainment: Ensure teachers effectively use assessment data to track learner progress, identify gaps, and implement targeted interventions, driving improved academic outcomes.
  • Pastoral Support: Oversee the pastoral and well-being provision, working with staff to ensure every child is known, safe, and supported.
  • Discipline Consistency: Work with the Deputy Headteacher to ensure all teachers consistently apply the school’s positive behaviour management policy, maintaining high expectations for student conduct and classroom routines.

Operational Leadership and Communication

  • Administrative Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Junior School section.
  • Infernal Communication: Act as the primary conduit for information, ensuring effective two-way communication between the Senior Leadership Team and the Junior School staff.

Pastoral Care, Welfare, and Discipline Leadership

  • Discipline System Oversight: Oversee the strategic implementation and consistency of the school’s positive behaviour and discipline policy throughout the Junior School. This includes working with the Deputy Headteacher to monitor trends in student conduct.
  • Complex Case Management: Lead the resolution of complex or severe disciplinary cases for the Junior School, ensuring fair, restorative, and consistent application of sanctions and interventions, while involving parents as necessary.
  • Learner Welfare and Safeguarding: Serve as a key leader for student welfare, well-being, and safeguarding. Ensure all staff are trained and vigilant regarding child protection protocols and contribute to a secure and nurturing environment.
  • Promoting Values: Champion the development of CBC core competencies and values by ensuring teachers integrate character development and responsible citizenship into their daily lessons and interactions.

Must be a teacher of Mathematics or Kiswahili as the main subjects, teaching between Grade 4–Grade 9.

  • Education: A minimum of a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)
  • Certification: Must possess a current and valid Teachers Service Commission (TSC) registration.
  • Experience: Significant teaching experience in primary or secondary school (minimum 5 years), with at least 2 years in an instructional leadership role like Head of Department, demonstrating a proven track record in developing and raising the performance of teaching staff.
  • Expertise: Deep expertise in instructional coaching, performance review methodologies, and the practical implementation of the Kenyan CBE and must be CBE trained with certification.
