GIS Technician

Main tasks and responsibilities

Coordinate the collection of community-level data related to climate change risk assessment in the field
Organize and manage databases, ensuring data quality and validation
Support the development of methodologies for risk analysis
Assist in the analysis of exposure, vulnerabilities, and hazards within the project area
Support the development of urban planning and climate change adaptation plans
Coordinate the validation of risk maps with communities and the DRR Specialist
Produce cartographic outputs for risk mapping in collaboration with the consultant
Support the Global AVSI team in the preparation of urban assessments and GIS-based cartography
Assist the Global AVSI team in managing and organizing the ArcGIS Hub
Deliver training on GIS tools to the Global AVSI team

Essential Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Urban Planning, or a related field, with at least 3 years of relevant experience
Proven experience in community-based urban projects, particularly in informal settlements or emergency contexts
Solid experience using GIS software, including QGIS and ArcGIS
Demonstrated experience in Disaster Risk Management (DRM)
Knowledge of Kenyan urban planning regulations and legal frameworks
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
Good knowledge of AutoCAD
Familiarity with office equipment and computer hardware
Strong coordination skills and ability to work effectively within an international team
