GIS Technician
Main tasks and responsibilities
- Coordinate the collection of community-level data related to climate change risk assessment in the field
- Organize and manage databases, ensuring data quality and validation
- Support the development of methodologies for risk analysis
- Assist in the analysis of exposure, vulnerabilities, and hazards within the project area
- Support the development of urban planning and climate change adaptation plans
- Coordinate the validation of risk maps with communities and the DRR Specialist
- Produce cartographic outputs for risk mapping in collaboration with the consultant
- Support the Global AVSI team in the preparation of urban assessments and GIS-based cartography
- Assist the Global AVSI team in managing and organizing the ArcGIS Hub
- Deliver training on GIS tools to the Global AVSI team
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Urban Planning, or a related field, with at least 3 years of relevant experience
- Proven experience in community-based urban projects, particularly in informal settlements or emergency contexts
- Solid experience using GIS software, including QGIS and ArcGIS
- Demonstrated experience in Disaster Risk Management (DRM)
- Knowledge of Kenyan urban planning regulations and legal frameworks
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Good knowledge of AutoCAD
- Familiarity with office equipment and computer hardware
- Strong coordination skills and ability to work effectively within an international team
