The Deputy Director, Research and Partnership, KEWI 3 reports to the Senior Deputy Director, Research, Strategy and Business Development KEWI 2.

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail: –

  • Spearheading     the     development and     review of     research       policies,        strategies     and programmes;
  • Leading key projects in research and development to support the Institute’s goals;
  • Commissioning and manage external researchers and experts to carry out specific research studies;
  • Developing framework for networking and linkages with research institutions and industry;
  • Providing inter – disciplinary research training, coaching and mentoring;
  • Coordinating peer review publications;
  • Promoting the use of new technologies in research;
  • Overseeing assessment of the scope of research projects and ensure they are on time and within the budget;
  • Developing        modalities     for      collaboration with     external        consultants   and     research institutions;
  • Enhancing networking, collaboration and linkages with stakeholders; and
  • Spearheading local and international partnerships to enrich research and innovation programmes.

Person Specifications

For appointment to this grade an officer must have: –

  • Served for a cumulative period of fifteen (15) years relevant work experience three (3) of which must have been in the grade of Assistant Director, Research and Partnership or in a comparable position;
  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Water / Civil / Mechanical / Electrical / Irrigation Engineering, Hydrology, Geology, Hydrogeology, Mathematics, Computer Science, Land Surveying and Social Science, Physical Sciences and Natural Sciences, Environmental Science, Economics, Commerce, Education or any other relevant qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Water / Civil / Mechanical / Electrical / Irrigation Engineering, Hydrology, Geology, Hydrogeology, Mathematics, Computer Science, Land Surveying and Social Science, Physical Sciences and Natural Sciences, Environmental Science, Economics, Commerce, Education or any other relevant qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Certificate in Research Methods or its equivalent from a recognized institution for those without research –based degree;
  • Evidence of published research;
  • Membership to a relevant professional body and in good standing where applicable;
  • A valid practicing certificate where applicable;
  • Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
  • Proficiency in computer applications; and
  • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

In addition to the above indicated requirements, applicants will be required to meet the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya on Leadership and Integrity.
The following clearances will be required from successful candidates upon offer of job and not at the application stage.

  • Certificate of Good Conduct;
  • Clearance from the Ethics and Anti – Corruption Commission;
  • Certificate of Compliance from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB);
  • Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Tax Compliance Clearance; and
  • Certificate of Clearance from the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
