Our client is looking to hire a Credit Manager who is responsible for overseeing the credit function of a local Credit Company, ensuring sound portfolio quality, effective credit risk management, and adherence to lending policies and CBK regulatory standards. The role involves leading the credit team in appraising, approving, monitoring, and recovering loans while supporting sustainable business growth across all branches.
Key Responsibilities
Credit Policy & Risk Management
- Develop, review, and enforce credit policies, procedures, and lending guidelines in line with CBK prudential regulations and institutional risk appetite.
- Evaluate credit risks associated with loan applications and recommend appropriate risk- mitigation measures.
- Ensure adherence to Know-Your-Customer (KYC), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), and Data Protection Act requirements.
- Periodically conduct portfolio risk analyses (PAR 30/60/90, NPL ratios, provisioning adequacy, etc.) and recommend actions for portfolio improvement.
Credit Appraisal & Approval
- Supervise and guide the credit team in analyzing loan proposals for individuals, SMEs, and group clients.
- Review loan documentation and approve or recommend credit requests within delegated limits.
- Maintain a balanced loan portfolio aligned with institutional targets, social impact goals, and sustainability standards.
Portfolio Monitoring & Collections
- Oversee loan disbursement, repayment tracking, and portfolio performance monitoring.
- Lead recovery strategies for delinquent loans in collaboration with Recovery Officers.
- Ensure timely reporting and follow-up on overdue accounts to maintain acceptable PAR levels.
- Implement early-warning systems and branch-level credit quality audits.
Systems Optimization & Digital Efficiency
- Ensure the credit management system (ERP/loan platform) functions optimally to support real-time loan processing, monitoring, and reporting.
- Work closely with the ICT and Operations teams to identify and resolve system issues affecting credit operations.
- Support automation of credit workflows, data accuracy, and digital loan analytics for better decision-making.
- Participate in system upgrades, user testing, and training of credit staff on digital tools and reporting dashboards.
Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare periodic credit reports for management, Board, and regulatory bodies.
- Ensure compliance with CBK regulations, internal policies, and external audit recommendations.
- Coordinate with Finance and Operations teams for provisioning, write-offs, and recovery reporting.
Business Development & Product Innovation
- Identify and pursue opportunities to grow the loan portfolio through new markets, products, and customer segments (e.g., SMEs, women-led enterprises, and climate-smart financing).
- Analyze product performance metrics and client feedback to recommend adjustments that enhance impact and profitability.
- Provide market intelligence on competition, pricing, and customer needs to inform strategic decisions.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or related field.
- CPA / ACCA / Credit Management certification (AKCP, ICPAK, or equivalent) is an added advantage.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in credit management within a microfinance, SACCO, or banking environment.
- Proven track record in credit risk management, portfolio growth, and recovery oversight.
- Familiarity with CBK Microfinance Regulations.
- Sound knowledge of credit-scoring models and risk-based pricing.
- Proficiency in ERP, Loan Management Systems, and MS Excel.
