Job Description

Country: Kenya
Organization: Christian Aid
Closing date: 31 May 2026

1. Introduction & Purpose

Christian Aid (CA) is an international development organization working globally with partners to implement integrated and innovative programs to end poverty by addressing the underlying causes. Christian Aid’s mission is to tackle the symptoms and root causes of poverty, challenge power structures which put people in poverty and deprive them of dignity, and strengthen the voice and agency of communities to speak for themselves.

CA has extensive experience implementing the SASA! approach—an evidence-based community mobilization strategy to prevent violence against women—across complex contexts including South Sudan and Northern Ethiopia. The SASA! model, built around four phases (Start, Awareness, Support, Action), uses a power-based approach to shift harmful social norms and promote gender equality.

In partnership with GOAL, CA is implementing the EU/FPI-funded project “Strengthening Women’s Empowerment and Safeguarding Communities and SGBV Victims in Sudan,” targeting North Darfur and South Kordofan. The project aims to improve safety for women and girls by expanding access to survivor-centred SGBV services and strengthening women’s roles in peacebuilding.

As part of implementation of the SASA! Together approach, Christian Aid seeks to engage a short-term consultant/translator to translate the SASA! Together toolkit and related implementation materials from English into Sudanese Arabic. The translation process will be implemented in phases to allow for review, testing, and contextual validation during implementation.

2. Objectives of the Consultancy

The purpose of this short-term consultancy is to translate and linguistically contextualize existing SASA! Together materials developed by Raising Voices into Sudanese Arabic for use in Sudan, particularly North Darfur and South Kordofan.

The consultant will ensure that the translated materials reflect survivor-centred, inclusive, gender-sensitive, and context-specific approaches to SGBV prevention and response.

The scope of work and specific tasks of this consultancy include:
1.Translate SASA! Together training and implementation materials from English into Sudanese Arabic while maintaining the meaning, tone, and intention of the original methodology.
2. Review and contextualize key terminologies related to power, violence against women, gender equality, rights, protection, and community mobilization to ensure cultural relevance and accessibility.
3. Develop and maintain consistency of translated technical terminology across all materials.
4. Translate Training of Trainers (TOT) materials including facilitation guides, participant handouts, presentation slides.
5. Support contextual adaptation and redesign of selected visuals and graphic materials to reflect the Sudan context while maintaining fidelity to the SASA! Together methodology and branding requirements.
6. Translate simplified materials for community-level engagement tailored to faith leaders, women’s groups, and community activists.
7. Ensure translated materials are community-friendly and avoid overly academic or literal translation that may limit comprehension.
8. Provide recommendations on culturally sensitive wording and language usage to strengthen community acceptance and usability of the materials.
