Overall purpose of the job

Reporting to the Director/CEO, the incumbent will be responsible for providing leadership and management of the Advocates Training Programme (ATP).

The specific duties and responsibilities will entail, but not limited to:

  • Developing and coordinating implementation of strategies, policies and procedures to ensure achievement of School’s objectives;
  • Planning the ATP calendar of the ATP programs;
  • Working closely with deputy director to develop strategies for marketing the School’s ATP programmes;
  • Developing budgets and work plans to match operational requirements with available funds, control and manage the budget and expenditure;
  • Overseeing quality assurance systems of the ATP programs within the department to maintain standards;
  • Participating in the development and review of the curriculum to ensure the program addresses market needs;
  • Mentoring and coaching staff;
  • Approving departmental budget;
  • Ensuring staff performance appraisal is carried out;
  • Preparing monthly departmental reports;
  • Preparing timetables for respective ATP activities;
  • Teaching, supervising and mentoring students;
  • Ensuring student discipline;
  • Allocating and supervising work/duties to members of staff;
  • Evaluating the performance of staff in the Department to ascertain efficiency and effectiveness in work performance in meeting the objectives of the function staff;
  • Evaluating course content to ensure they conform to the set curricula;
  • Dealing with internal and external correspondence;
  • Setting, moderate and mark examinations;
  • Setting and mark project work and administer oral examinations; and
  • Moderating pre bar examinations.

Persons’ specifications

  • The successful candidates should meet the following requirements: –
  • Have at least ten (10) years’ post admission relevant work experience in public or private sector, five (5) of which should be in management;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized university;
  • Master’s Degree in Law (LL.M) from a recognized university;
  • Post-graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law;
  • Be an advocate of the High Court of Kenya with current practicing certificate;
  • Be a member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing;
  • Have attended at least a management course lasting four (4) weeks;
  • Have fulfilled the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution; and
  • Proficiency in Computer Applications.
