The High School Assistant Principal assists the High School Principal in leadership and management within the high school. Responsibilities may vary based on strategic initiatives and the respective strengths of the leadership team. The Assistant Principal plays a crucial role in supporting the school’s mission, vision, and educational goals while fostering a culture of belonging for students and faculty. This includes leadership of both people and systems, ensuring that every student’s individual learning needs are met.
Leading for Learning
- Support Student-Centered Learning: Foster a positive, purposeful, student-centered, and learning-focused culture in the high school.
- Visible and Engaged Leadership: Be a highly visible presence among students, teachers, and parents.
- Collaborative Leadership: Provide constructive input to leadership discussions and decision-making processes.
- Supervision & Appraisal: Assist in supervising the instructional program, conducting observations, and appraising individual teachers and teaching assistants.
- Faculty Development: Contribute to the professional development of faculty, providing coaching and guidance.
- Student Learning Tracking: Support the collection, analysis, and use of student learning data (both qualitative and quantitative) to drive improvements in learning systems, interventions, and curriculum adaptations.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborate with colleagues to support the school’s strategic planning initiatives.
- Team Learning Goals: Actively engage in implementing and monitoring team learning goals.
- Evolving Leadership Roles: Take on leadership responsibilities as they evolve.
Managing for Learning
- Administrative Support: Serve on the school-wide leadership team, contributing to effective processes and systems.
- Master Schedule Development: Oversee the annual development of the master teaching schedule for high school students and staff.
- Student Discipline: Handle student disciplinary matters, consulting with the principal for major violations.
- Child Protection Lead: Serve as the Child Protection and Safeguarding Lead in the high school.
- Meeting and Communication Management: Ensure that meetings and communications effectively support student learning.
- Innovation Through Design Cycle: Utilize the design cycle to approach challenges and implement innovative solutions.
- ICT & Data Management: Support teachers, staff, and the ICT Director in managing data systems and technical elements in line with the school’s ICT vision.
- Acting Principal: Step in as principal in the absence of the High School Principal.
- Emerging Tasks: Take on emerging tasks to ensure high-quality programs and systems in the high school.
Required Qualifications
- Administrative Certification (or equivalent credential).
Experience:
- At least 6 years as an educator, with experience in high school.
- Leadership experience in a culturally diverse international school setting.
- Proven ability to guide colleagues in professional growth.
- Demonstrated experience in instructional leadership, including supervising and supporting teachers, improving instructional practices, and driving student-centered learning outcomes.
Skills & Attributes:
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Cultural proficiency and understanding of intercultural learning.
- Strong organizational skills and experience with educational technology.
- Demonstrated ability to connect with students and foster a positive, inclusive, and engaged learning environment.
- Commitment to student-centered decision-making, with a deep understanding of pedagogy, MTSS, and positive behavioral support strategies.
- Ability to build strong relationships and effectively connect with all stakeholders, including students, parents, faculty, administration, and the broader community.

- Willingness to contribute to the extended time requirements of an administrative role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership (completed or in progress).
- Prior experience supervising teachers.
- Prior experience in leading Advisory and Tier 1 MTSS systems.
- Prior experience in the IBDP program.
- Familiarity with Google Suite and PowerSchool.
