Job Purpose Statement
The Senior Business Development Manager will support the Head, Trade Finance Sales in driving the uptake of Trade Finance products for an assigned Sector(s) within Corporate Banking.
The main goal is to deliver the assigned Trade Finance business and revenue target by:
- Developing, implementing, and marketing trade finance products to existing and new clients directly and via Relationship Managers (RMs).
- Maximizing customer profitability through innovative and value-added financing.
- Reducing risk to the bank.
Key Accountabilities (Duties and Responsibilities)
Financial (50% Weighting)
- Drive the growth of Trade Finance Income and Business volumes through marketing, selling, and cross-selling of various trade products to corporate and financial institutions portfolios of current and prospective customers.
- Originate deals directly and in conjunction with RMs from existing and prospective clients to maximize customer profitability by providing innovative and value-added financing while reducing risks to the bank.
- Work with the Head of Department to develop sales pipelines of trade-related business in line with overall Account Plans.
- Structure Working Capital solutions and sell Trade products and services to new and existing customers in the Corporate and Commercial, and Business Banking segments.
- Meet/exceed sales goals and targets in respect of revenues, drivers, and transaction volumes.
- Be jointly responsible for achieving the quantitative and qualitative performance objectives set for the Trade Finance department.
- Provide support to the Corporate and financial institutions Teams in the Group in terms of structuring and packaging trade-related deals.
- Negotiate and propose pricing, terms, and conditions with customers to maximize revenue and profitability.
Internal Business Processes (20% Weighting)
- Establish and implement appropriate procedures and processes for guiding the unit’s activities, and periodically review/modify these to fit in with other units’ established work and risk management processes.
- Expand the Bank’s product offering through product features enhancement and promotion of traditional and innovative trade-related products.
- Match clients’ needs with product capabilities through presentation of tailored proposals.
- Be a crucial part of the solution implementation and follow-up team.
- Provide advisory and guidance services to the relationship managers, operations staff, credit risk teams, and branch network in relation to trade finance related products and transactions.
- Co-ordinate utilization reports for Structured Trade Finance facilities between the back office and credit risk for monitoring.
- Co-ordination of audit activities for the department when due.
- Ensure effective escalation and resolution of operational issues.
Customer (20% Weighting)
- Enhance customer service delivery by minimizing customer complaints and disputes.
- Understand customers’ businesses and anticipate requirements through a consultative selling approach.
- Provide structured solutions to meet the specific trade finance requirements of customers and prospects within the Group.
- Facilitate customer service delivery and ensure a high level of post-sales service is made available.
Learning and Growth (10% Weighting)
- Take a leadership role in training and transaction structuring for all trade products and services within the assigned sector.
- Train RMs, ARMs, and other staff in product knowledge and technical product expertise, and conduct joint calls.
- Provide specialist comments and ensure credit applications are technically in order and compliant with Credit policy and processes.
- Provide feedback and assistance to Transaction Banking areas (e.g., Product Management, Marketing) to ensure customer voice and local requirements are incorporated.
- Keep abreast of customer needs, trends, and product/market intelligence for new product developments/enhancements.
Ideal Job Specifications
Academic Requirements
- An Upper Second Class Bachelors’ degree in Business Management with a bias in Commerce, Accounting, Economics, or Finance.
Desired Work Experience
- At least 3 years of Banking experience.
- Experience in customer service and Trade products.
- Experience in relationship management and service delivery.
- General Branch Banking Operations (Trade Operations background will be an added advantage).
