Scope of Work / Key Responsibilities
The Consultant is expected to deliver on the following tasks:
- Review and propose improvement of the current HR system: Assess existing HR policies, manuals, and procedures, and provide recommendations to enhance efficiency, compliance, and alignment with best practices.
- Review of HR Policy and Handbook Development: Review and enrich the existing HR handbook, Code of Conduct, and disciplinary and grievance procedures to ensure clarity and consistency.
- Staff Capacity Building: Facilitate orientation and training sessions for staff to ensure effective understanding and adoption of the new or revised HR policies.
- Development of HR Systems and Data Management System: Develop staff records and data management systems and improve HR information systems (HRIS).
- Performance Management: Design a performance management and appraisal system that supports accountability, goal setting, and professional growth.
- Job Structuring: Conduct job analysis, develop or refine job descriptions, and guide the rationalization of roles and reporting structures as per organizational chart and project milestones.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Review the existing salary structure and recommend competitive, equitable compensation and benefits strategies.
- Staff Welfare Framework: Develop a comprehensive staff welfare and benefits framework that promotes employee motivation, retention, and well-being.
- Compliance and Legal Alignment: Ensure all HR policies and practices align with the Employment Act (Kenya) and other relevant labor laws.
- Occupational Health and Safety: Review and support the implementation of occupational health and safety policies and practices.
- Strategic HR Advisory: Advise leadership on workforce planning, structure optimization, and long-term HR sustainability strategies.
Deliverables
- Inception report outlining methodology and work plan
- Updated HR staff handbook & development of other policies/manuals deemed necessary (e.g staff welfare, occupational health & safety, etc)
- Staff training session on HR handbook
- Staff records and data management system in place
- Proposed compensation & benefits scheme per cadre
- Develop an incentive structure per cadre
- · Job descriptions and organogram
- Performance management tools
- Final report with implementation roadmap
- Duration of assignment
- The assignment is expected to take 3 months.
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Human Resource Management or related field
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in HR consulting or HR leadership roles
- Demonstrable experience in organizational HR policy development
- Knowledge of Kenyan labor laws and HR best practices
- Strong communication and facilitation skills
