Interim Thematic Programme Advisor

Responsibility

  • Co-management and delivery of the children on the move thematic priority and portfolio, including:
  • Co-moderating the children on the move working group
  • The post holder will be employed by Family For Every Child and must therefore ensure that they have the legal right to work within the county they are based. Family For Every Child does not support applications for working visas. We require proof of entitlement – visa and/or passport – and we will need a signed declaration for tax and social security purposes in order to ensure we comply with local legislation. Should the tax and or employment legislation within the country you are based prohibit Family
  • For Every Child from employing you directly then we reserve the right to withdraw an offer of employment.
  • Project managing and supporting grant management, reporting to and liaison with donors, and coordinating the inputs of members
  • Supporting the identification of suitable funders, and supporting Fundraising colleagues with relevant funding proposals and applications
  • Working with members and external consultants to develop research, policy and advocacy initiatives or papers and presentations
  • Contributing to the drafting and editing of policy statements, key messages and technical material for both online and paper communications
  • Developing strategic and influencing relationships with key external actors, to position Family for Every Child as a key global player in the area of children on the move
  • Identifying opportunities for members to represent Family (and support preparation/briefings for their participation), and responding to members’ requests to take on a representation opportunity
  • Management of the CoM portfolio budget, contributing to the rolling budget process, and providing relevant input to financial and operational management (e.g. estimating costs, duration or resource requirements of certain activities, when planning)
  • Leading the thematic strategies for the delivery of the Impact Pillar

Responsibility

  • Working with Family’s members through existing and new processes to generate, prioritise and develop new thematic ideas potential for future thematic portfolio
  • Ensuring that thematic portfolios are effectively integrating the climate crisis context and Family’s positioning within the prioritised thematic portfolios.
  • Ensuring that thematic portfolios integrate the identified cross cutting themes as and when relevant.
  • Developing and analysing the mapping of the members’ thematic strengths on an annual basis to inform the collective technical expertise of the alliance and connect to relevant portfolios, external opportunities and new themes to help diversify the thematic work of Family.
  • Building, maintaining and developing relationships with colleagues across all teams in the Secretariat, contributing to the delivery of the Alliance mission and Family for Every Child’s strategy
  • Contributing to cross-team work as needed and cross Secretariat project teams
  • Establishing and maintaining efficient administration systems, including digital filing
  • Undertaking any other reasonable duties or projects as required to support the work of the Secretariat

Person Specification & Behaviours:

Education, qualifications, knowledge and experience

  • Essential
  • Educated to Degree level (international Level 6) or equivalent qualification ideally in international development, or social sciences or a related subject
  • An understanding of the international development sector, and knowledge of key issues in child protection and child care issues (especially with displaced, migrating, or reintegrating children is preferred)
  • Experience of working with local civil society organisations (CSOs), understanding their context of work
  • Commitment to the value of local CSOs and practitioners in effecting change
  • Experience of coordinating learning projects across diverse groups of CSOs and inter-agency projects
  • Experience of developing concept notes and funding proposals for a range of donors
  • Project management experience: preparing and updating work plans, developing, monitoring and revising project budgets, reporting to management and donor(s)
  • Experience of inputting into monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL) processes and systems
  • Experience of effective communication at all levels across an organisation
  • Experience of operating in an organisation in which a facilitative and consultative style of working is appropriate
  • Experience of working in a multicultural setting, demonstrating understanding of working internationally
