The Human Resource Officer will be responsible for implementing and supporting HR strategies, policies, and programs across the organization. This role involves managing recruitment, employee relations, performance management, training and development, and ensuring compliance with labor laws and internal policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Recruitment and Onboarding
- Manage the end-to-end recruitment process, including job posting, shortlisting, interviewing, and onboarding.
- Draft employment contracts and ensure proper documentation before onboarding.
- Support departmental heads in identifying staffing needs and aligning recruitment with business goals.
Employee Relations and Performance Management
- Handle employee relations matters, grievances, and disciplinary procedures in accordance with company policy and labor law.
- Coordinate performance appraisal processes and ensure timely feedback and follow-up actions.
- Maintain positive working relationships with union representatives and support smooth industrial relations.
Training and Development
- Identify training needs in collaboration with departmental managers and develop targeted capacity-building programs.
- Organize and evaluate training programs to ensure effectiveness and alignment with business needs.
Policy Implementation and Compliance
- Support the implementation of HR policies, procedures, and standard operating guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with the Employment Act, Occupational Safety and Health Act, and other labor-related legislation.
- Maintain up-to-date personnel records and HR documentation.
HR Operations and Reporting
- Manage HR information systems (HRIS) and ensure data accuracy.
- Prepare periodic HR reports including recruitment updates, staff movements, and training records.
- Support employee wellness initiatives and promote a positive organizational culture.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior HR staff and interns.
- Lead cross-functional HR initiatives aimed at enhancing organizational effectiveness.
- Represent HR in inter-departmental and cross-site coordination meetings.
- Foster a culture of inclusion, teamwork, and continuous improvement across the organization.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Human Resource Management, preferably within a unionized manufacturing setup.
- Strong understanding of Kenyan labor laws and employment regulations.
- Proficient in HRIS and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Demonstrated integrity, discretion, and professionalism.
Professional Membership
- Must be a registered member of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) and in good standing.
