The Role
We’re seeking a talented Back-End Software Engineer to join Hubitable in a full-time, on-site role based in Nairobi, Museum Hill. In this pivotal position, you’ll architect and build the robust, scalable back-end systems that power Hubitable’s engagement features—handling everything from real-time customer orders to secure payment integrations and data-driven personalization. This isn’t just coding; it’s crafting technology that brings convenience to health-aware individuals and offer chefs the tools to turn passion into profit.

Day-to-Day Highlights:
- Design, develop, and optimize RESTful APIs and microservices using modern back-end technologies (e.g., Node.js, Python/Django, Docker Swarm).
- Integrate third-party services like payment gateways (e.g., M-Pesa, Stripe) and real-time databases (e.g., MongoDB, PostgreSQL).
- Write clean (Preferably familiar with DDD software practises), testable code; conduct code reviews; and automate CI/CD pipelines to ensure rock-solid reliability.
What We’re Looking For
- We’re excited to hear from developers who thrive in startups: self-starters with a hacker mindset, a mind for innovation, and ability to turn complex problems into elegant solutions.
- Technical Prowess: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience. 2+ years of professional back-end development, with hands-on expertise in algorithms, data structures, and OOP principles (e.g., building scalable web apps).
- Problem-Solving Skills: Proven track record of tackling real-world challenges (e.g Hackathons, Open-Source projects) —like optimizing query performance or securing sensitive user data.
- Tech Savvy: Familiarity with cloud platforms and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
- Soft Skills That Scale: Good communication skills; Adaptability in a fast-paced startup; and a collaborative spirit that values diverse perspectives.
- Bonus Vibes: Open-source contributions, side projects in sports apps, or fluency in tech tools (e.g., integrating local APIs).
