We’re looking for a Social Media Marketing Intern to join us on-site in Nairobi.

You’ll work closely with the founding/marketing team to:

Build and mantain a consistent brand presence

Grow an engaged local audience

Turn followers into active QwikSale users

This is not a “just post random stuff” role. You’ll learn how to plan, execute, and measure real campaigns that support growth, retention, and trust. What You’ll Be Doing

You won’t be making “just vibes” posts. Expect to get your hands dirty with real work:

Content creation & scheduling

  • Create short-form video content (Reels, TikToks, Shorts) around:
  • Buyer tips
  • Seller tips
  • Safety advice
  • Success stories
  • Feature explainers (how to post, how to search, how to chat, etc.)
  • Announcement cards
  • Feature launches
  • Before/after sale stories
  • Service highlights (e.g. “Best weekend cleaning deals on QwikSale”)
  • Write clear, engaging captions (not essays) with strong hooks and CTAs.
  • Build and maintain a posting calendar across our key platforms.
  • Use scheduling tools (or native platform schedulers) to keep content consistent.

Community management

  • Design static and carousel posts:
  • Respond to comments, DMs, and mentions in a timely but professional way.
  • Escalate any sensitive issues (fraud, abuse, safety concerns) to the team.
  • Jump into relevant conversations, posts, and threads where QwikSale should show up.
  • Help turn casual followers into trusted buyers/sellers by answering questions clearly.

Campaign support & experiments

  • Assist with campaign concepts:
  • Themed weeks (e.g. “Phone Deals Week”, “Side Hustle Sunday”)
  • Hashtag challenges around listings, small businesses, or services
  • Contests or giveaways (within our brand and safety limits)
  • Help with influencer / creator outreach (e.g. micro-influencers in Kenya) where relevant.
  • Suggest new ideas based on what you see working on Kenyan social media, not just global trends.

Analytics & reporting

  • Track basic metrics for each platform:
  • Reach, saves, shares, comments, follows
  • CTR on bio links and story CTAs (where applicable)
  • Sign-ups or listing activity tied to campaigns where trackable
  • Compare what works vs what flops and propose improvements:
  • Best posting times
  • Content formats that perform best
  • Topics that spark real engagement
  • Prepare short weekly or bi-weekly reports with:
  • Screenshots
  • Top posts
  • Quick analysis + clear next steps

Brand & strategy support

  • Help keep visuals, tone, and messaging consistent across all platforms.
  • Give feedback from the social audience back to the product and marketing team.
  • Stay on top of platform changes and local trends (Kenyan memes, slang, behavior) and advise when we should adapt.

Minimum Qualifications

  • We care more about skill, attitude, and output than fancy titles. That said, you should tick most of these:
  • Strong understanding of social media marketing and content creation.
  • Hands-on experience posting on at least a few of these:
  • Instagram, TikTok, X (Twitter), Facebook, YouTube Shorts.
  • Basic knowledge of digital marketing concepts:
  • Awareness vs engagement vs conversion
  • Funnels / customer journeys
  • Basic A/B testing logic (try two hooks, see what works)
  • Good written and spoken communication skills. You should be able to:
  • Write tight, clear copy
  • Explain ideas simply
  • Reply to people without sounding robotic or unprofessional
  • Currently pursuing or holding a degree in:
  • Marketing
  • Communications
  • Media / Journalism
  • Or a related field

Nice-to-Have (Bonus Points)

Not required, but a plus if you have:

  • Experience creating or editing short videos using tools like:
  • CapCut, VN, Adobe Premiere Rush, Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, etc.
  • Some familiarity with design tools like Canva, Figma, Photoshop, or similar.
  • Comfort with social media analytics:

What We’re Looking For in a Person

  • This matters as much as the technical side:
  • Creative but disciplined – you can generate ideas and follow a content plan.
  • Proactive – you don’t wait for someone to spoon-feed topics; you suggest them.
  • Adaptable – you can quickly adjust content style when we learn what works.
  • Detail-oriented – you care about spelling, visuals, brand voice, and basic quality.
  • Curious – you’re constantly watching what other Kenyan brands and creators do online and thinking “how can we do our version of this?”.
