The Principal Lecturer, KEWI 5 reports to the Senior Principal Lecturer II KEWI 4.

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail: –

  • Designing and developing curriculum and training manuals;
  • Reviewing teaching/learning materials and schemes of work;
  • Lecturing in the area of specialization in accordance with the syllabus;
  • Setting and marking examinations/assignments;
  • Moderating examinations;
  • Supervising trainees’ projects and practical work;
  • Carrying out research work on area of specialisation;
  • Implementing guidelines for students with special needs;
  • Preparing students progress reports;
  • Conducting student academic mentorship programmes;
  • Ensuring maintenance and updating of class registers; and
  • Developing and implementing new methods of instruction.

Person Specifications

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have: –

  • Served for a cumulative period of nine (9) years relevant work experience three (3) of which must have been in the grade of Senior Lecturer or in a comparable position;
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant lecturing field in any of the following disciplines: Water / Civil/ Irrigation Engineering or its equivalent qualification from a recognised University;
  • Certificate in Training of Trainers (TOT) course lasting not less than six (6) months in a recognised Institutions;
  • Membership to a relevant professional body and in good standing where applicable;
  • Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognised Institution;
  • Proficiency in computer applications; and
  • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and result.

In addition to the above indicated requirements, applicants will be required to meet the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya on Leadership and Integrity.

  • Certificate of Good Conduct;
  • Clearance from the Ethics and Anti – Corruption Commission;
  • Certificate of Compliance from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB);
  • Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Tax Compliance Clearance; and
  • Certificate of Clearance from the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
