Job Purpose

To provide specialized pediatric surgical care through safe, evidence-based procedures and collaborative multidisciplinary management to ensure optimal health outcomes for pediatric patients.

Duties and responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Pediatrics, the position holder will be responsible for the following:

  • Conducting thorough clinical evaluations and diagnostic assessments of pediatric patients with surgical needs.
  • Performing a wide range of surgical procedures tailored to the unique anatomical and physiological needs of children.
  • Providing comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative care to ensure optimal recovery and patient safety.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including pediatricians, anesthesiologists, and other specialists, to deliver holistic care.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely medical records in compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.
  • Participating in clinical teaching, supervision, and mentorship of junior doctors, interns, and medical students.
  • Engaging in continuous professional development and contributing to research and innovation in pediatric surgery.
  • Any other duty as may be assigned.

Key Qualifications and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree from an institution recognized by Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
  • Master of Medicine (MMed) in Pediatric Surgery or equivalent specialization from an institution recognized the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist’ Council.
  • Registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
  • Retention in the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council register.
  • Recognition as a Specialist by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
  • Valid Practice License as a specialist from the Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists’ Council.
  • Professional Insurance Indemnity Cover.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Compliance with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.
