Position Function
Riara University, a fully chartered institution committed to excellence, innovation, and holistic education, seeks a motivated, innovative, and research-oriented academic to join the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy as a Lecturer.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, research, curriculum development, student mentorship, and contributing to the overall academic growth and reputation of the University.

Teaching and Learning

  • Deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in International Relations, Diplomacy, and related fields.
  • Design and review course content, instructional materials, and assessment methods to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Integrate technology and innovative pedagogical approaches into teaching.
  • Supervise undergraduate research projects and post-graduate dissertations.
  • Mentor and supervise students undergoing internship and community service.
  • Identify opportunities for students’ involvement such as students led workshops, seminars and competitions.
  • Provide academic advising and mentorship to students, supporting their academic and professional development.
  • Assist the Department in identifying, developing, and implementing marketing strategies and activities for its programs.

Research and Scholarship

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research in areas relevant to international relations and diplomacy.
  • Publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at academic and professional forums.
  • Engage in research projects, consultancies, and grant applications that align with the University’s strategic priorities.
  • Support the development of a strong research culture within the department and across the University.

Curriculum Development and Quality Assurance

  • Participate in curriculum review and program development to ensure academic relevance and quality.
  • Align teaching and assessment practices with institutional quality assurance frameworks.
  • Contribute to accreditation, moderation, and academic audits.

Community Engagement and Institutional Service

  • Participate in community outreach, policy dialogue, and capacity-building initiatives that extend the University’s impact.
  • Collaborate with industry, government, and international partners to enhance student learning and employability.
  • Assist in organizing and guiding students to participate in community service and similar platforms that enhance student’s life-long learning and professional development.
  • Serve on departmental and university committees, supporting academic administration and governance.
  • PhD in International Relations, Diplomacy, Political Science, or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
  • At least three (3) years of university-level teaching experience or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field and must meet the Commission for University Education criteria for appointment to the rank of Lecturer.
  • Creative, innovative, and a team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Expert knowledge in their field as well as relevant experience and the ability to teach, using a variety of student-based learning approaches, on a range of academic and professional programs.
  • Published in peer reviewed journals, and attended conferences, and/or ongoing research activity.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply ICT in teaching and learning.
  • Commitment to integrity, ethics, and the University’s values of excellence and innovation.
  • A membership in relevant professional bodies will be an advantage.
