  • The National Food Policy Programme brings together national (state and non-state actors) and global partners working collaboratively to advance a strong food environment policy framework in Kenya, through coordinated action, resource sharing, and collective impact. The partners include: the Ministry of Health’s Division of Nutrition and Dietetics and other relevant departments, the Kenya Legal and Ethical Issues Network on HIV and AIDS (KELIN), the International Institute for Legislative Affairs (IILA), and the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC). The goal of this initiative is to strengthen Kenya’s food environment policy and governance through coordinated advocacy, research, and policy implementation. Effective in-country coordination is essential to ensure alignment of activities, strong partnerships, effective communication and feedback and achievement of agreed outcomes. The National Coordinator will serve as an independent contractor providing coordination, advisory, and liaison support between national and global partners within the Food Policy Programme framework.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the national and global partners, ensuring timely and effective communication.
  • In consultation with the Coalition, prepare and submit timely progress reports and updates to global and national partners, as well as meeting minutes, and other documentation as required.
  • Coordinate planning, implementation, and monitoring of programme activities at the country level.
  • Organise and facilitate regular coordination meetings, workshops, and joint activities among stakeholders.
  • Support the development and implementation of joint workplans to ensure alignment with national priorities and global frameworks.
  • Support monitoring of progress of programme activities, identify bottlenecks, and propose solutions to enhance effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Maintain strong relationships with the programme stakeholders, including the coalition, government entities, partners, and community groups.
  • Participate in relevant in-country forums, conferences, and meetings with government agencies and partners as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain a stakeholder engagement plan and ensure regular information flow between national and global partners.
  • Provide strategic advice to ensure policy coherence and alignment with Kenya’s nutrition and food environment goals.
  • Coordinate documentation of best practices, lessons learned, and policy wins.
  • Support resource mobilisation and knowledge-sharing efforts where needed.
  • Master’s Degree in International Development, Social Sciences, Public Health,
  • Public Policy/Administration, or a related field
  • At least 7 years of experience managing multi-partner programmes in public health, nutrition, or food systems, including direct engagement with government ministries and international partners.
  • Demonstrated experience working with CSOs, government agencies, and international partners.
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in project management tools, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of national health policy and development, context and fluency in English.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse, multicultural team.
  • Non-affiliation with the tobacco, alcohol or food and beverage industries.

  • The National Coordinator will report administratively to the National Food Policy
